Nonstop or one stop?
The nonstop flight is the most comfortable choice, especially with children. One-stop itineraries via Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi or Istanbul are often cheaper and give you a break halfway. Compare the total travel time, not just the price.
Cheapest time to fly
- Usually cheapest: May, June and September, outside French school holidays.
- Most expensive: the Christmas and New Year holidays, February holidays, and July and August.
- Best weather: November to February, the cool and dry season, which is also high season.
Tips to pay less
- Book three to six months ahead, and earlier for Christmas or the February holidays.
- Compare open-jaw trips: arrive in Bangkok and fly home from Phuket, Krabi or Chiang Mai.
- Be flexible by a few days.
- Consider a stopover in Dubai, Doha or Istanbul if a one-stop ticket is much cheaper.

Entry rules
Thailand has offered visa-free entry for short tourist stays to UK, EU and many other passport holders, but the allowed length of stay has changed more than once recently. Thailand has also introduced a Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) that travellers complete online shortly before arrival. Check the official Thai government and embassy websites for the current rules before you book.
